Civic Theatre Newcastle
The Civic Theatre Newcastle is one of Australia's great historic theatres with a richly baroque interior sure to delight and inspire. The exterior of the building references the Georgian revival style with elegant repetitive arched windows.
The Heritage-Listed theatre was designed by theatre architect Henry Eli White who was responsible for the design of Newcastle City Hall and the State Theatre in Sydney. In a spectacular celebratory ceremony it was opened by the Premier of New South Wales in 1929. It is one of few surviving late-1920s atmospheric theatres in the country.
This is Newcastle's premier venue for live stage productions, presenting a year round calendar of events, including live music, comedy, dance, live theatre and educational events.
Within the footprint of the Civic Theatre is the Civic Digest, a contemporary cafe and bar with quality food and beverages set in an ambient and creative space. Enjoy a glass of wine, sip delicious coffee or enjoy a tasty light meal before going to show.
