The Yellow Door Kitchen - Cooking School


The Yellow Door Kitchen is Newcastle’s only dedicated cooking school. Located in the inner-city suburb of Tighes Hill in the old Who Printing Warehouse.

The warehouse has been transformed into a purpose-built cooking school that is able to cater to all levels of home cooks, and those wanting to take their passion for baking and cooking to the next level.

There is a class for everyone at The Yellow Door Kitchen whether it’s participating in a hands-on class or watching a cooking demonstration while enjoying a glass of wine with friends.

Owner and Pastry Chef, Janet Newton's passion for baking and cooking started in childhood. During the long Christmas holidays, she spent baking with Czechoslovakian family friend, Irene. During this time the family was provided with an endless supply of traditional tarts, slices, biscuits and cakes. The wonderful love of sharing food with family and friends was born out of these one-on-one cooking lessons and is the inspiration behind the opening of The Yellow Door Kitchen.

Janet trained as a Pastry Chef at the famous Le Cordon Bleu cooking school and has many years of experience working in restaurants and patisseries. Her ability to combine flavours and her passion for baking is infectious and will ensure students are transported into a wonderful, creative world of cooking during her classes.
