Visit Newcastle in April! There is so much to enjoy as part of Food Month. The city meets the ocean with headlands, harbour and homes gracefully looking out to sea. Don’t miss Darby Street and its world of restaurants and designer shops. The light rail and bus services will take you wherever you want to go. There are plenty of great accommodation options, including ocean or harbour front hotels or luxurious waterfront homes.

April is early for the whales, but look for the famous dolphin pod fishing off the newly refurbished Ocean Baths. The energetic can enjoy the coastal walk to Bar Beach, and finish with lunch at Merewether Surf House. Ride a bike along the scenic Fernleigh Track from Adamstown to Belmont. The rainforests of Glenrock Lagoon make a beautiful stopover on the way.

If you love Australian wildlife, visit tranquil Blackbutt Reserve and Hunter Wetlands Centre: enjoy a meal at the Wetlands Centre’s excellent café. Marvel at migratory waders at Stockton Sandspit as they prepare to migrate to Siberia and Alaska.
