Your 48-hour Newcastle experience could look like this:

Day 1
Enjoy the sounds of the ocean with a stroll along Bathers Way from Nobbys Beach to Merewether; or become immersed in Aboriginal culture at the Awabakul Cultural Resource Centre.

You’ll find it tough to choose from the eclectic mix of cafes and restaurants along delightful Darby Street in Cooks Hill. Leave some time after lunch to enjoy the boutique shopping along this stylish strip – from grungy to glamorous, it’s all here.

Relax in the romantic harbour-front Honeysuckle precinct and enjoy a mid-afternoon refreshment from a cool waterfront spot such as
Silo, Honeysuckle Hotel, The Squires Maiden or The Landing Bar and Kitchen.

You’ll need to make it a long night to do justice to Newcastle’s variety of pubs and wine bars. Whether you start with a dinner cruise or a meal at
Bocados, finish your evening with a visit to the newly launched lighting display City of Evolutions along Watt Street, or take in a performance at the historic Civic Theatre.

Day 2 could see you....
Fossick for bargains at the Centenary Centre, NEWcastle’s largest antique centre, or check out one of the renowned weekend markets such as the
Olive Tree or City Craft and Farmers Market.

Head to Beaumont Street for thriving café culture and classic Mediterranean cuisine before spooking yourself with a unique afternoon
Ghost Tour of Fort Scratchley and the East End.

Venture to the
Newcastle Art Gallery, one of Australia’s leading regional art galleries and home to almost 5000 works, including paintings, drawings, watercolours, prints and sculpture; then treat yourself to a boutique brew at Craft & Co Burgers, or enjoy a pre-dinner drink at 5 Sawyers’ retro vinyl Sundays.

Finish off your stay in style with five-star fine dining at
Restaurant Mason or Subo; or if a leisurely afternoon is more your speed, stop in at Scotties for NEWcastle’s best loved fish and chips.

Last but not least, take a walk down memory lane to the famous Lizotte’s cabaret, meander around the Ocean Baths, or have a nightcap at the city’s hottest new small bar and arts venue -Terrace Bar.
