Lifeline World Suicide Prevention Day

Out of the Shadows (World Suicide Prevention Day) will look a little different this year, but Lifeline Hunter recognises the importance of this annually day of recognition for those bereaved by suicide and those who are struggling with their own mental health, in shining a light on Suicide Prevention in our community.

Lifeline Hunter is unable to host a physical walk as we normally would, but feel it is more important than ever to encourage connection, so this year we’re providing new opportunities to connect. Whilst we may not be physically together, we can still unite at the same time on the same day to send a collective message of hope.

You can ‘Walk With Us’ by putting your shoes by the front door, setting your alarm, and taking a walk on your own, with a friend (or a small group), knowing that likeminded members of the community will be doing the same thing a couple of streets down or the next town along. You can also host your own walk within your community and register it so other people can join you.

In addition, this year we have developed a virtual garden. This garden will be a place to come together, a place for remembrance and reflection. Unity in knowing you are not alone, sending a powerful message of hope and connection to those who are impacted by suicide. You can choose to plant a flower in our virtual garden to send a message of hope or to honour the memory of a loved one.

Lifeline Hunter will broadcast a moment of reflection on Facebook at @5.45am which you can login for to start your walk or simply just engage with.

Register your own walk and invite other people from the community to join you

Please note: your walk details will made public so others can join you. There are guidelines and resources to support you in your planning. We ask you please make yourself aware of and adhere to state restrictions and social distancing measures.
